This week I had created my first podcast. For this podcast, I surveyed my sixth grade students about their use of technology at home and in school. I found that my students have access to various technologies within their homes. However, they do not have that type of access within the school. They are emerged in technology at home and want it to be a part of their daily use in the classroom as well.

Thank you for listening!

Hi Aneta,
ReplyDeleteI thought it was interesting that one of your students would prefer reading on her Nook because it saves trees and it is more fun. My school has a one-to-one laptop program that has been in place for 4 years. We recently purchased a textbook for our biology classes that came with a CD containing a digital copy of the book. So, the first day of class all students downloaded the book to their computer and they also were asked if they wanted the paper textbook. They all took a book. Now in class, 80% of the students religiously bring their textbooks, while only 20% are happy with the digital copy. I am interested to see how this ratio evolves over the next few years. I expect more and more to prefer reading on their computer because they won't want to carry a textbook around if they don't have to.
I also was interested by the student who said they would prefer to use the web to connect to people to learn about their culture or their stories first hand, instead of learning from a textbook. This sounds great, I just wonder how easy it would be to do. I suppose if you could find some blogs, and news sites, you could put together your own webpage with an aggregator to collect all this information for your class.
Thanks for sharing your survey's results.
